Filling the baritone spot for Legacy Five is Scott Howard from West Monroe, Louisiana. “Howie”, as the guys call him, has been with the group since they first started traveling in January of 2000.
When asked about his favorite gospel group ever, Scott Does not even hesitate. “The Cathedrals. I had never heard another group like them, and still consider them to be the best gospel quartet of all times. Their music forged the direction that my musical interest would go.”
To fulfill his desire to be a part of Southern Gospel music, Scott began searching for a group to sing with. He found this in a local mixed group called Sonshine. He would sing with this group for the next 12 years. “I’m thankful for the time with Sonshine,” Scott says. “The Lord was preparing me for my calling.” It was also during his time there that Scott met his wife, Kelly.
Scott and Kelly married in January of 1989 and in October of 1992, Mallory, the first of their three children, was born.
In May of 1996, the Howards left their home in Louisiana and moved to Tennessee. Scott explains, “I actually started working for Roger Bennett shortly after coming to Tennessee. He was still with the Cathedrals and also doing some solo dates. I managed the mail order office and traveled with Roger on his solo dates, running sound and singing a little.” This would eventually lead to the opportunity to join Legacy Five.
Grant, the second Howard child, was born in March of 1998. Grant is a chip off the old block. He’s a miniature version of his daddy.
On May of 2003, the Howard’s added a third child to their family thru adoption. Jenna was born in a small village near the city of Magadan in eastern Siberia. Jenna adapted to life in Tennessee like an old pro and is thriving and doing great.
All three of the Howard children lead active lives. Mallory plays piano, sings in youth choir, and she does some studio singing. She has done vocals on several audio recordings, as well as, appeared in childrens’ videos along with her little brother.
Grant loves fishing and hunting, and has started playing baseball.
Jenna can usually be found close behind Grant. She enjoys swimming and just about anything outdoors.
In 2004, the readers of the Singing News Magazine voted Scott Howard the Favorite Baritone of the Year. When he received the award that night, Scott spoke of what someone had asked him saying, “They asked me what I would say when the winner was announced and I said ‘Well, congratulations’ to whoever wins it.”
This is a humble man who is genuinely grateful for the opportunity to sing with Legacy Five. He concludes, “I’m doing exactly what I want to do with a group of men that I consider to be my family.”
He quotes scripture in closing, “Romans 8:28 means what it says… God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” Scott Howard knows his place in the Kingdom and appreciates the opportunity to fulfill it.[/vc_column_text]
